CSUN Recycling Center
Modern garbage collection center
Designed for California State University at Northridge, this building is disguised as an angular modern structure and a giant garbage collection center serving the neighboring areas. This facility works as a catalyst in recycling process by separating and compacting the recyclable waste preparing it to be sent to recycle centers. To promote the benefits of recycling the center itself employs recycled aluminum as its distinctive facade.
Beside separation and compaction facilities this building also holds training room, kitchen, offices/workspace, and a lounge. Taking advantage of open design layouts has led to a reduction in construction costs and also has improved lighting and ventilation. Large windows on the north side scoop cool air and spread the light, on the south side smaller windows reduce direct exposure to sunlight and bring a balance.
